PRODUCT Function in Excel

In this blog post we will learn about PRODUCT function in excel.

PRODUCT function can be used when we want to multiply multiple values provided in the arguments.

Importance of PRODUCT Function?

In mathematics, PRODUCT of a number is calculated by multiplying all the input numbers. So in case we want to multiply the numbers then we can use the PRODUCT function. Usage of this function is more effective whenever we want to multiply huge numbers together.

Where to find PRODUCT function on Excel Screen:

PRODUCT function can be found under “Math & Trig” function category under “Formulas” tab and under “Function Library” group as shown in below image:



Once we click on “Math & Trig” function category, we can see list of various Math & Trig functions available in excel. PRODUCT function is highlighted in blue in below image.


Once we click on PRODUCT option as highlighted above, we will get the function argument dialog box as shown in below image.



Syntax of PRODUCT Function:

The Syntax of PRODUCT function is as below:

=PRODUCT(number)


Arguments of PRODUCT Function:

PRODUCT function can take maximum 256 numbers.

number 1: In this argument, we must enter any number, logical value, or text representation of numbers that you want to multiply.

[number 2]….. [number 255]: These are optional arguments. we must enter any number, logical value, or text representation of numbers that you want to multiply in these arguments.

Example of PRODUCT Function:

We have listed few random numbers in column A. We will multiply these numbers and find out the result with the help of PRODUCT function.


For this select a cell where we want to apply PRODUCT function. In this case we have selected cell C4.



Apply PRODUCT function in selected cell C4 as shown in below image.


Once we press enter button on our keyboard then we can see the output of PRODUCT function.


In this way we can use the PRODUCT Function in excel.

In this blog post we will learn to Insert Multiple Rows in excel based on cell value with the help of VBA Code. For this we have prepared dummy data as shown in below image. This blog post is continuation to our series of posts on “Conditional Formatting”. In this blog post, we will learn about highlighting values which are “Above Average” and “Below Average” of the selected values. To learn this post in an easy way, I have randomly listed few numbers as shown in below image. In this blog post we will learn how to apply “Number Filters” in excel. We will see all the sub types of Number Filters in detail with below example.
