Ribbon in Excel
Ribbon is the most important part of excel. We can say Ribbon is the heart of excel. Majority of the work which we do in excel on daily basis is based on Ribbon. So let's see what is this Ribbon.
Ribbon is situated below the Title Bar. Ribbon is divided in 04 categories:
1. Tabs
2. Groups
3. Commands
4. Launchers

In other way, we can say that Ribbon is divided into Tabs, Tabs are divided into Groups,
Groups are divided into Commands and Commands are divided into Launchers. We will have a brief overview of all these parts of Ribbon in this blog post. Let’s start with Tabs:
Tabs:
There are seven tabs available in Ribbon by default. These are listed as below:
1. HOME
2. INSERT
3. PAGE LAYOUT
4. FORMULAES
5. DATA
6. REVIEW
7. VIEW
Groups:
Each tab contains bunch of commands. Each command has its own function. This bunch is called as Group. Below images will help you to identify groups from each Tab:
Commands:
Commands are the most important part in excel. Each command is having its own function and if you learn to use each and every command effectively then excel will be more interesting to you.
Below image will provide you details about each Tab, Groups and commands contained in each Group.
Launchers:
Launchers are small arrow structure (highlighted with red in below image) visible on the bottom right corner of each group.
If we click on these Launchers, additional commands from that specific group will appear to us. Now there might be question in your mind: Why all the commands are not appearing in the Tabs itself? Why we have to use Launchers to expand additional commands? Well, if we add all the commands in Tabs on Ribbon there might be space problem. So if we are looking for additional commands in specific Tab then we have to click on Launcher.
Example: If we click on the Launcher from “Font” Group, a dialogue box showing additional commands will appear. These commands are not visible in on Ribbon under “Font” Group
This was all about Ribbon. As I mentioned above there are 07 Tabs available in Ribbon by default. But there are some additional Tabs in excel which are not visible on Ribbon. So in my next blog post I will explain you how to customize the Ribbon. Stay tuned!!!
