Hide & Unhide Gridlines in Excel

What are Gridlines?

In our very first blog post ā€œIntroduction to Excelā€ we have learned about cells which are intersection of rows and columns. There are multiple cells placed adjacent to each other in single excel sheet. These adjacent cells are separated by single line called as ā€œGridlinesā€. Gridlines will help us to read the data easily.

In below image, Gridlines are shown with the arrows.



Why to Hide & Unhide Gridlines?

Some people will like to hide the gridlines while some people will prefer to work with gridlines. This will be complete choice of individual based on their requirement.

Some people will prefer to always work with gridlines which will help them to read the data entered in excel sheet easily.

Some people will prefer to hide the gridlines to make their excel template beautiful and attractive.

At the end it’s the excel user who have to decide whether he/she want to work with the gridlines or work without gridlines by hiding them.

You can easily identify the difference between how the excel sheet will looks like with and without Gridlines in below image.



Hide & Unhide Gridlines:

Now let’s learn to hide & unhide the Gridlines.

1. Whenever we open new excel file, by default Gridlines are visible.



2. To hide these Gridlines, we have to go to ā€œViewā€ tab.


3. Once we go to ā€œViewā€ tab, we can see ā€œGridlinesā€ command under ā€˜Show’ group. The checkbox for this command is checked by default.



4. To hide the Gridlines, we have to just uncheck this checkbox.



In this way we can hide & unhide Gridlines in excel.
